Today, I want to urge you to keep working on your marriage. Don’t give up. Over the last few days we have heard too many stories about couples who are having rough times.

Married life comes with its ups an downs; it’s seasons, Think about your family. We all have boxes of clothing for the different seasons  As winter ends the jackets will give way to windbreakers and eventually shorts. With summers return come the swimsuits, tank tops and flip-flops. We adapt for the season we are in.

We don’t always adapt so well in our marriages. A new season rolls in and we don’t want to change. We were happy in the other season. Sometimes we ignore the signs that are telling us change is coming. As someone who has lived a good part of my life in hurricane threatened areas it reminds of the people who ignore the warnings to evacuate. They believe everything will be OK and don’t heed the warnings. Some have survived, some have experienced great loss as a result and still others died.

That’s a chilling picture of the state of some of our marriages. Now is not the time to quit. Some of you have weathered many seasons and storms together. Keep going and see what the end will look like. Some of you are experiencing your first storms, your first change of seasons. Don’t be discouraged, adapt.and let God guide you through it. For all of you at various points in between don’t get complacent, don’t take your spouse for granted. Make the most of the good times and grow together through the bad times.

We are praying for you and believe what Ephesians 6:9 says:

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”(ESV)

Enjoy Your Marriage,
David McIntyre
